Education: Pursuing a BA in American Studies from Columbia University

Heven is an American Studies major studying at Columbia University. Their studies focused on the intersections of American film and media and social movements. They previously served as a University Senator, Race & Ethnicity Representative and coordinator for the Office of Multicultural Affairs. 

Throughout their academic career, Heven has advocated for resources for first generation low-income students, pushed for mental health reform, and created a research proposal for a change to methods of policing and public safety on campus. One day, Heven is hopeful that we will be able to abolish carceral systems. 

Born in Eritrea and raised in Maryland, Heven enjoys playing lacrosse, listening to sad indie songs, and watching French new wave films.
