Natasha discovered the world of birth work and reproductive justice through her policy research work with the Texas Policy Evaluation Project’s (TxPEP) postpartum contraception access study, a study looking at the impact of the Texas state legislature’s budget cuts to family planning programs. As a research associate with TxPEP, Natasha recruited and interviewed 200 participants over 2 years and supported the PI and researchers with development of research instruments and protocols, data management, and analysis of qualitative data. From there they went on to train as a birth, postpartum, and abortion doula, and have volunteered as a birth doula for low-income households in California and Puerto Rico.

They have also worked for Atma Connect, a non profit organization dedicated to creating technology to strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities through neighbors helping neighbors. They supported Atma in developing and launching their program in Puerto Rico in 2019-2020, building awareness and relationships with community based organizations, community leaders, iNGOs, foundations, and government agencies on the archipelago.

Natasha is slowly working their way towards applying to a nurse-midwifery program. In the meantime they remotely support a collective in Puerto Rico providing doula services to low income households and diverse abled populations while they raise a spirited 3 year old who enjoys dancing bomba and convening an audience.
